Russia holds parliamentary vote in areas it seized from Ukraine in the war
Saturday, September 19, 2026
Russia held parliamentary elections in four Ukrainian regions — Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson — which it claims to have annexed following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The voting took place in territory that Russia controls but Ukraine and most Western nations do not recognize as Russian. The elections were conducted under Russian electoral law in areas where fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces continues or has recently occurred.
