Friday, September 18, 2026
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger signed Executive Order 22, which restricts executive branch officials from signing non-disclosure agreements related to data center projects and directs state government to examine local authority over data center development approvals. The order also established a state AI task force. Virginia currently hosts a significant portion of the nation's data center infrastructure. The order aims to give local communities greater input into whether data centers are built in their areas.
