First dinosaur bone from Antarctica found in a drawer
Monday, June 29, 2026
A dinosaur bone from Antarctica was discovered in a drawer at the British Antarctic Survey's Cambridge office. The fossil, collected during a 1985 expedition to Antarctica, is part of the tail of a Titanosaur. Titanosaurs were large sauropod dinosaurs that lived during the Cretaceous period. The bone had been stored but not previously identified as a dinosaur fossil. This represents the first confirmed dinosaur bone discovery from Antarctica.
