Former GOP whip, Arizona Sen Jon Kyl dead at 84

Jon Kyl, a Republican U.S. senator from Arizona who served two non-consecutive terms and held the position of Republican whip in the Senate, died on December 31, 2024, at age 84. Kyl represented Arizona in the Senate from 1995 to 2013 and again from 2018 to 2019 following his appointment to fill a vacancy. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1986 and served there until his election to the Senate. Kyl held a law degree from Arizona State University and practiced law in Phoenix before entering politics.
