US Housing Starts Unexpectedly Decline on Multifamily Projects

US residential construction declined in August to levels not seen since the pandemic, driven by a drop in multifamily housing starts. The decline was reported by the Commerce Department. Multifamily projects, which include apartments and condominiums, accounted for the majority of the decrease in overall housing starts for the month.
