Billions in Taxes Go Unpaid. Under Trump, the I.R.S. Won’t Say How Much.

The Internal Revenue Service has not released its annual estimate of unpaid federal taxes since President Trump took office in January 2026. The tax gap estimate, typically published yearly, measures the difference between taxes owed and taxes paid. Without the figure, it is not possible to compare unpaid tax levels before and after January 2026.
