Gender Equality to Take 120 Years Even as Gap Narrows, WEF Says
Wednesday, September 16, 2026
The World Economic Forum's latest annual report on gender parity found that closing the global gender gap would take approximately 120 years at current progress rates, according to WEF Managing Director Saadia Zahidi. Zahidi noted that during global crises such as the pandemic, societies tend to revert to more traditional leadership patterns, a trend she said is already visible in artificial intelligence development. The assessment was released as part of the WEF's regular gender equality tracking study.
