Fine particulate matter in Washington, D.C. reached levels comparable to previous Independence Day celebrations following the Freedom 250 fireworks event, according to EPA data. The particulate levels remained elevated through Sunday morning. The EPA measures fine particulate matter, known as PM2.5, as an indicator of air quality.
