Boston dumps Flock, says it shared data nationwide in violation of contract

Boston terminated its contract with Flock Safety after determining the company enabled a "nationwide lookup" feature despite a contractual requirement to disable it, according to a city statement. The city said the feature allowed data collected by Flock cameras in Boston to be searched by law enforcement agencies outside the city. Flock Safety is a provider of automatic license plate reader cameras used by police departments. Boston had contracted with the company to deploy the cameras locally, with specific terms governing data access and sharing.
