Thousands of Medicare beneficiaries lost prescription drug coverage after failing to pay premium increases on plans they believed had zero-dollar premiums. The beneficiaries said they were not notified that their plan premiums had increased and they owed payment. Most cannot reestablish coverage until 2027, according to reporting by outlets including KFF.
