How Palestinians Are Building a Digital Archive That Can’t Be Erased
Monday, July 6, 2026
Palestinian organizations have created a distributed digital archive containing approximately 500,000 records of cultural, historical, and legal documents. The archive uses multiple backup systems across different locations to prevent loss of data from conflict, server failure, or political obstruction. Contributors include Palestinian institutions, researchers, and individuals documenting family histories, institutional records, and legal documentation. The initiative stores copies in multiple countries to ensure continuity if any single location becomes inaccessible. Participants have not disclosed the complete list of hosting locations or all partner organizations for security reasons.
