Deadly bacteria detected as NYC orders emergency cleaning of cooling towers

New York City Department of Health officials ordered emergency cleaning of cooling towers after detecting Legionella bacteria, which causes Legionnaires' disease. The bacteria was found in cooling systems in the South Bronx. Legionnaires' disease is a respiratory infection that can be fatal, particularly in older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
