As Americans are crushed by affordability, growing trend of mayors pushing cash handouts as the answer

Several U.S. mayors have launched cash assistance programs as federal pandemic relief funding from the American Rescue Plan Act expired. The Economic Securities Project studied cash assistance effectiveness during major life transitions such as job loss or relocation. Programs in cities including Stockton, California; Newark, New Jersey; and others distributed direct payments to residents between 2019 and 2024.
