Blue state governor's pardon of convicted felon torpedos a major Supreme Court immigration fight

New York Governor Kathy Hochul pardoned a convicted noncitizen on January 16, 2026. The pardon rendered moot a pending Supreme Court case regarding bond hearing rights for detained immigrants facing deportation. The case had been scheduled for oral arguments before the Court.
