Park officials pushed for a Grand Canyon trail to remain closed. Then the floods came.

Park officials recommended the North Kaibab Trail remain closed following a 2024 fire that burned the area. The trail reopened prior to an August 2025 flash flood that resulted in deaths. Current and former officials stated they had raised safety concerns before the reopening.
