SL Green CFO on Lower Manhattan's rebound after 9/11
Friday, September 11, 2026
Matt DiLiberto, chief financial officer of SL Green, said Lower Manhattan has added population and housing since September 11, 2001, and now includes residential developments, office space, and memorialization around the World Trade Center site. DiLiberto cited SL Green projects including 100 Church Street, 33 Beekman, and 180 Broadway as examples of the neighborhood's shift from a primarily financial district to a mixed-use area. He stated the central question after the attacks was not whether the area would be rebuilt, but how it would be rebuilt and how long the process would take. According to Bloomberg, DiLiberto said the redevelopment reflected a need for New York to maintain vitality in Lower Manhattan alongside its existing commercial centers.
