9/11 Hijackers Utilized Visa Overstay Loophole to Illegally Stay in U.S.

Some of the 19 individuals who hijacked four commercial airplanes on September 11, 2001, remained in the United States after their visas expired. The attacks killed approximately 2,977 people. The individuals had entered the country on valid visas but did not depart when their authorized stay ended, according to subsequent investigations.
