Iran-Backed Houthis Capture Strategic Red Sea Island

Houthi forces announced Friday that they had taken control of Perim, a volcanic island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The announcement followed the Houthis' capture of the port city of Mokha on Thursday. Perim is located along a major shipping route. The Houthis are a Yemen-based armed group.
