Your Social Security check could go up another $71 next year. That’s not necessarily good news.

The Social Security Administration announced that the cost-of-living adjustment for 2026 will increase benefits by approximately $71 monthly for the average retiree. The COLA is calculated based on inflation measurements from the third quarter of the preceding year. A higher COLA reflects increased inflation in the economy during the measurement period.
