Twenty-Five Years

Friday, September 11, 2026

The September 11, 2001 attacks killed nearly 3,000 people across four coordinated plane crashes in New York City, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 struck the World Trade Center towers in Manhattan; American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon; and United Airlines Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to retake control. The attacks led to the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001 and the passage of the USA PATRIOT Act in the same month. They remain the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history.
