Wikipedia Is Battling for the Soul of the Internet

Katherine Maher, former executive director of the Wikimedia Foundation, said Wikipedia faces challenges from artificial intelligence systems, foreign governments, and coordinated editing campaigns. The foundation's leadership has worked to address misinformation, vandalism, and unauthorized use of Wikipedia content by AI companies. Maher previously served as U.S. ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and took the Wikimedia role in 2023.
