Muslim Americans in New York experienced increased discrimination following the September 11, 2001 attacks. According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, reported hate crimes and incidents against Muslims rose significantly in the months after the attacks. Muslim American organizations in New York have since expanded their political engagement and cultural institutions, including the establishment of community centers, educational programs, and increased participation in local and state politics.
