With TPS in doubt for Salvadorans, businesses brace for turmoil

The Trump administration ended Temporary Protected Status for 232,000 Salvadorans on February 9, 2026. Restaurants, hospitals, and construction firms began laying off workers ahead of the deadline. TPS had allowed Salvadorans to legally live and work in the United States since 2001, following earthquakes in El Salvador.
