99-year-old WWII veteran awarded Purple Heart after waiting more than 80 years

A 99-year-old Army veteran who was wounded near the Rhine River during World War II received the Purple Heart medal on the date specified by the awarding authority. The veteran had not previously received the medal despite the injury occurring 81 years prior. The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the military who are wounded or killed as a result of enemy action.
