US Producer Prices Rise Most in Three Months on Energy Surge

The producer price index rose 0.4% in August from the prior month and 5.4% from a year earlier, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Thursday. Excluding food and energy, the index advanced 0.2% in August and 4.6% year-over-year. The increase reflected higher energy prices, with the data released one day before the consumer price index report for August.
