How did 9/11 reshape national security?

Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, the U.S. government established new national security institutions and policies, including the Department of Homeland Security in 2002 and the Transportation Security Administration. Congress passed the PATRIOT Act in October 2001, expanding surveillance and law enforcement authorities. The intelligence community was reorganized with the creation of the Director of National Intelligence position in 2004.
