Google signs its biggest rice-methane carbon credit deal with Indian startup Mitti Labs

Thursday, September 10, 2026

Google signed a four-year agreement with Indian startup Mitti Labs to purchase carbon credits from rice farms across three Indian states, covering approximately 100,000 hectares at peak delivery. Rice paddies produce methane, a greenhouse gas that carbon credit programs measure and monetize through offset sales. The deal represents Google's largest rice-methane carbon credit purchase to date.
