Ground Zero first responder needed major surgery decades after 9/11 exposure: ‘I thought it was over’

Volunteer EMT Mordechai Shedrowitzky underwent major surgery after developing a rare airway disease linked to his exposure to dust at Ground Zero following the September 11, 2001 attacks. Shedrowitzky spent years hospitalized and treated with steroids before requiring the surgical intervention.
