Democratic socialist backed by Bernie Sanders ousts Providence, Rhode Island mayor

Rhode Island Rep. David Morales, age 27, won the Providence mayoral election by 8 percentage points over incumbent Mayor Brett Smiley. Morales campaigned on rent stabilization and housing justice policies.
