How Fighting Fires Became an All-of-Europe Project

The European Union activated its Civil Protection Mechanism to coordinate firefighting resources across member states during widespread wildfires in 2025 and 2026. The mechanism allows EU countries to request and share firefighting personnel, aircraft, and equipment. Greece, Italy, Spain, and Portugal received assistance from other member states through this system during major fire events.
