Weight regain after obesity drugs tied to higher odds of suicidal thoughts in observational study

Wednesday, September 9, 2026

Researchers analyzing data from more than 27,000 adults found that people who used weight-loss drugs and subsequently regained weight had 4.2 times higher odds of suicidal ideation compared to those who did not regain weight, according to an observational study. The study did not establish whether the weight regain itself caused the increased ideation or whether other factors were responsible. Observational studies can identify associations between variables but cannot prove direct causation.
