Judge orders Alex Murdaugh murder retrial moved to nearby county

A judge ordered Alex Murdaugh's double murder retrial moved from Colleton County to Sumter County, finding that the jury pool in Colleton County was too compromised to provide a fair trial. Murdaugh was convicted in March 2023 of murdering his wife Maggie and son Paul in February 2023. The South Carolina Supreme Court ordered a new trial in 2024 after determining that Murdaugh's trial attorney withheld information about a financial motive from the defense.
