Chrystia Freeland served as Canada's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister until she resigned in December 2024. She participated in negotiations over the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which replaced NAFTA and took effect in 2020. As of 2026, the U.S. and Canada have implemented tariffs on each other's goods following trade disputes.
