Germany's far-right achieves an electoral breakthrough in key state election

The Alternative for Germany party won 36.6 percent of the vote in the Saxony-Anhalt state election, increasing from 16.1 percent in the previous state election in 2021. The result was the party's strongest performance in a state election to date. Several regional elections are scheduled in Germany over the coming months.
