Oil prices hit near seven-week highs, before edging lower, as Iran plans to increase control of Hormuz

Oil prices rose to near seven-week highs before declining in late trading. West Texas Intermediate and Brent crude contracts for October and November delivery were steady after earlier gains in the session. Iran announced plans to increase control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-third of global oil shipments pass.
