Data center projects in the United States face public opposition in multiple communities. Tech industry leaders and some policymakers have attributed resistance to concerns about Chinese ownership or influence of data center infrastructure. A 2024 poll by the American Energy Alliance found 72 percent of respondents opposed large data center development in their local areas, citing electricity consumption and environmental concerns.
