Scientists discover new tick-borne virus after testing thousands of patients with mysterious illnesses

Researchers identified a virus transmitted by Asian longhorned ticks in patients who developed flu-like illness and low platelet counts, according to laboratory analysis in China. The virus, classified as a nairovirus, was detected in over 10% of tick-bitten patients included in the study. The findings were based on testing patients with unexplained illnesses.
