Former North Texas police officer given three life sentences for child pornography, solicitation of minor

Daniel Joseph Bates, a former North Texas police officer, was convicted by a jury and sentenced to three life sentences for possession of child pornography and solicitation of a minor. Bates claimed the 300 explicit child images found in his possession were part of a secret human trafficking investigation. The jury rejected his defense and returned a guilty verdict.
