Gun control activists demanded better data. What they got surprised the heck out of them

William English released a redesigned National Firearms Survey in 2026 estimating 2.2 million annual defensive gun uses and 26.4 million AR-15 owners in the United States. English, a researcher at the Duke Center for Firearm Safety, conducted the survey. The estimates differ significantly from previous survey methodologies on both defensive gun use frequency and AR-15 ownership prevalence.
