In a First, a Pig Kidney Kept a Patient Alive Until He Got a Human One

Tim Andrews received a genetically modified pig kidney transplant in February 2024 at Massachusetts General Hospital. The kidney functioned until Andrews received a human kidney transplant approximately two months later. Andrews had end-stage kidney disease and was on dialysis before the procedure.
