Eastern US Heat Wave Starts to Retreat While Raising Storm Risk

Heat affecting the eastern United States is beginning to move out of the region. The National Weather Service reported the heat had strained power grids from Maine to the Carolinas. Weather forecasters said that as the high-pressure system moves, it will create atmospheric conditions favoring thunderstorm development across the eastern states.
