Dutch central bank moves gold bars out of U.S. and Canada, citing ‘crisis preparedness’

Thursday, September 3, 2026

The Dutch central bank relocated gold reserves from the United States and Canada to vaults in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, according to a statement by De Nederlandsche Bank. The bank stated that gold stored with the Bank of England is more readily tradable and can be deployed more quickly in a severe crisis. The Netherlands holds approximately 612 tonnes of gold reserves, making it one of Europe's largest gold holders.
