Scientists Have Identified a New Fossil Species of Axolotl in Mexico

A fossil salamander species named Ambystoma quetzalcoatli has been formally identified in Mexico. The discovery marks the first fossil salamander species formally named from Mexico. Researchers determined the species inhabited the region millions of years ago, extending the known history of axolotls in the country.
