Toyohiro Akiyama, first Japanese citizen and journalist in space, dies at 84

Toyohiro Akiyama, a Japanese journalist, died at age 84. Akiyama flew on the Soyuz TM-11 mission to the Mir space station in December 1992, becoming the first Japanese citizen in space. During his time in orbit, he reported observations about how certain tree frogs responded to weightlessness.
