NYC bans AI use for students until they reach high school

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a one-year moratorium on artificial intelligence use in classrooms for students in prekindergarten through eighth grade, affecting approximately 600,000 public school students. The policy takes effect in the 2026-2027 school year and includes additional restrictions on digital devices. The moratorium does not apply to high school students.
