Proposition 65, California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, requires the state to maintain a list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity and mandates warnings on products containing those substances. As of 2026, the list includes over 900 chemicals. Products bearing Prop 65 warnings are sold legally in California, and the presence of a warning does not necessarily indicate that a product is unsafe at typical exposure levels.
