The Declaration of Independence has sustained damage from sunlight and physical wear despite being housed in a protective glass enclosure at the National Archives. A former archivist stated that the Trump administration did not prioritize restoration or conservation efforts for the document. The Declaration remains on display to the public at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
