Pierre Damas Bel, a Haitian immigrant in Ohio, died by suicide after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed an ankle monitor on him, his family reported. The Trump administration had canceled temporary protected status for Haitian immigrants, a designation that had allowed him to work legally in the United States. Bel's family stated he felt humiliated following the placement of the monitoring device by ICE officers.
