NBA tests single free throw attempt at Summer League as sport pushes for a faster game
Friday, July 3, 2026
The NBA is testing a one-free-throw attempt rule at Summer League games. Under the experiment, players shoot one free throw instead of two on non-shooting fouls, with a make worth one point and a miss resulting in a dead ball. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has previously supported adopting the G League's shorter quarters format. The G League has used the single free throw attempt in recent seasons.
