Abbey Gate survivor describes chaos before attack, says pullout was botched from the start

Tyler Vargas-Andrews, a Marine who was at Abbey Gate during the August 2021 Afghanistan evacuation, stated that Marines lacked tents, food, and support during the withdrawal. Vargas-Andrews described the evacuation as requiring improvisation due to insufficient resources and preparation. A suicide bombing at Abbey Gate on August 26, 2021, killed 13 U.S. service members and approximately 170 Afghan civilians.
